Awakening 0.7.10 - Incoming Boss Fight!
Haven't done a dev log in long while.. Wanted to show the evolution of the first boss called Ca'Mox. When first starting off with this boss over a year ago, there were many ideas of how his fight would work, but ultimately a number of those have changed for the final version. Heres how it started out!
After working with the sprites and getting everything imported into the project. Here is what it looked like in game after about an hour or two of work. First is the basic attack. Pretty basic, the initial thoughts were, it looks weak, adding some screen shake would add to this effect.
This is what the boss introduction. Initial thoughts, the boss needed to be focused a bit, adjusting the camera to focus on him, the health bar took away from his character also.
His second attack was meant to have him be invulnerable and have to the player evade attacks.
The third attack was meant to chase down the player.
After a couple more hours of work the boss introduction is looking a bit better. His Axe throw is also looks to be having a bit more impact.
After a week of working on him, it was clear that this was just something as a programmer wasn't ready for. So it got shelved for a little while and other things were done instead.
Skipping ahead over 8 months and coming back around to Ca'Mox, things came together much more fluidly this time around. Coming back to the him, a few ideas had been scrapped this time instead of getting polished art, the lesson learned was to make something fun using quick assets would be the process used going forward with everything.
A few things still were not right, the boss intro seemed a bit dull, music was off and didn't set the mood well, some of his attacks didn't mesh with the the way he was mean't to feel. So the next iteration was born, making his attacks a bit over the top, repeatable, and with screen shake and more polished intro, he was now ready.
